MAISON ISLANDAISE
…thank God while I’m drunk
Cause when I sober up, I’ll still be that anarchist, atheist kid
Who’s looking for a drink
                        thinking of
                                                    regretting
tonight’s lightnes
the smell of black ink on this paper, crossing the red ink lines
that my mom wrote a few days ago, reminders
that I snatched from our dining table;
the sounds from the tongues on palates and teeth
the lips that speak true words
from another time
                        in New Orleans.
I lean back on the couch and watch the guys play
banjo, clarinet, strumming many strings.
I understand the fuel that fires them
witness the fire that fuels them
realize i am that drunk but I don’t remember how it happened.
                        Captain Morgan.
Realize the window frame draws a Lorraine Cross.
Then a flock of geese make it Victorious.

…my hat’s on my face
I open my eyes
the light draws stars through the straw
I stare at my private night sky
but soon realize there’s now a French song on the speakers
it floods the living room
                        Jacques Brel.
soon the tears flood my eyes, drawn my night sky:
my dad used to always play this song in his car.
----------------------------

que ma mère a écrites il y a quelques jours ;

Je me rends compte à quel point j’suis saoul
mais plus de comment s’est arrivé.
                        Captain Morgan.
